My three months of Bangla language classes just came to an end. Woohoo! I’m sick of classrooms. It’s true.
I still have a ton to learn, but it feels good to have a foundation of grammar and vocabulary under my belt. I’ll be continuing less formal language study in K-town, and I look forward to constant immersion in the slum where I can practice and improve. There’s much to learn, not only regarding language, but also with culture, survival and so on.
I want to always see myself as a learner, but this season is an especially important time of learning.
The next two weeks will be a bit strange for our team. For various visa reasons etc., we are all going to be in different places in order to make preparations for our next steps to K-town. I’ll be in Dhaka with two teammates where we’ll spend time reviewing Bangla, reading books and resting before the big transition we’ve all been looking forward to.
Tomorrow two teammates leave for K-town and will continue networking with some connections and hopeful home stays that we’ve been in touch with. We don’t have any details set in stone at the moment, but we’re trusting that God will provide the right home stays in the right slums for our initial time of bonding and adjustment.
We’re planning to have home stays in order accelerate our language and cultural learning in the first weeks and/or months. In the meantime, we’ll be discerning what slums and specific housing we’ll move to for the long run. There’s much to figure out in the weeks and months ahead.
Please be in prayer for us as we trust God’s leading to connect us with people of peace and hospitality.
Next stop… K-town!

Congratulations on being done with the first step! I'm thinking of you as you prepare for moving into the slums and on to your next learning adventure.
